List of Most Famous Shiva Temples in India

Lord Shiva is a supreme mighty god and there are many mythology behind it. According to Hindus, Shiva is infinitive power in the world. There are many names of Lord Shiva and thousands of temple of Shiva is located on the earth. Lord Shiva is worshiped in many forms. Out of which Shiva Jyotirling is mainly worshiped. There are 12 Jyotirling on the earth, which have a lot of belief, on the basis of which thousands of people go to worship these Jyotirling. It is believed that Lord Bhole Baba ji resides in these Jyotirling.

Somnath Jyotirlinga	Somnath temple is the most sacred site for Hindus and it is the first of the jyotirlingas of lord Shiva. It is located in Prabhas Patan, Veraval (Somnath) in Gujarat.
Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga	Mallikarjuna Temple or Srisailam Temple is situated on the Srisailam hill in the middle of Nallamalla forests in Kurnool district in the western part of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the jyotirlingas of Shiva. This sacred temple is dedicated to both Lord Shiva and his consort Goddess Parvati.
Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga	It is one of the most sacred shrines and jyotirlinga which is located in the ancient city of Ujjain in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The holy river Shipra flows from the side of Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga. This holy temple of Hinduism is also known as the Mahakal temple.
Grishneshwa Jyotirlinga	Grishneshwar Temple is located in Aurangabad, Maharastra state of India, and this Jyotirlinga is dedicated to lord Shiva. It is considered a very important pilgrimage site. The famous Ellora caves are located nearby of this Shiva temple.
Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga	It is one of the Jyotirlinga out of 12 and this jyotirlinga is located nearby Narmada River in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh, India.
Kedarnath Jyotirlinga	According to Mahabharata, initially, the Kedarnath temple was built by the Pandavas. It is located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, India and it is known as Ek Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand.
Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga	It is an ancient Shiva temple located in the Pune district of Maharashtra and it is one of the Jyotirlinga out of five in MP State. Bhimashankar jyotirlinga is also explained in Shivpuran.
Vishweshwar Jyotirlinga	Sri Vishweswara Jyotirlinga or Kashi Vishwanath temple is located on the bank of the River Ganga in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. Varanasi is the holiest city of Lord Shiva.
Trimbakeshwar Jyotirling	Shri Trimbakeshwar is an ancient Hindu temple of Shiva which is located in Trimbak town in Nashik district of Maharashtra and it is approx 28 km from Nashik. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga and it has three faces of gods: Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma.
Vaidyanatha Jyotirlinga	Vaidyanatha is also known as Baba Baidyanath Dham. This Hindu holy place is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Shiva is worshipped as Bab Vidyanath. This Shiva temple is located at Devghar in the Jharkhand state of India. By coming to Devghar one gets the blessings of both Shiva and Shakti. The priests say that Shakti was established here first and then Shivling was established.
Nageshvara Jyotirlinga	Shri Nageshvar Jyotirling is a very famous temple of Shiva and it is located in Hingoli, Maharashtra state in India. It is one Jyotirling of 12. Here Nageshvar means to the God of Nags. Every year lakhs of people visit this temple and on the occasion of Maha Shivratri a big fair is held here.

Shiva is a Sanskrit language word, which means welfare or auspicious. Dev Mahadev of gods is eternal and infinite. All gods and goddesses have stories but only Mahadev Shiva is unborn in the universe. There is no clue or story of his birth. He (Shiva) is infinite and the Universal power. He is the only creation of the world.
