Yamunotri is a Hindu shrine and source of the river Yamuna in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand. Yamunotri is part of a circuit of four abodes (Char Dham) in Uttarakhand. This holy temple is also known as Mata Yamuna Devi. It is said that the Yamuna River is the daughter of the Sun and Yam is the son of the Sun. People who bathe in the water of Yamunotri, he/she will not get unwanted death. In this temple, a black statue of the goddess Yamunotri with a statue of Yam. The actual source of Yamunotri is a lake and glacier of frozen ice. Snow melts from a great height on Kalind Mountain and falls here in the form of water.
According to Mahabharata, Pandava first visited Yaunotri and then visited Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand. So, doing Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, first, this spiritual journey starts with the Yamunotri temple visit.
