About Chandrashila Chopta

The word Chandrashila means Chandra Shila where Chandra (Chand) is to Moon and Shila to Rock. It is a beautiful summit above the Tungnath temple just a 1.5 km trek from this temple and approx 5-6 km trek from Chopta to Chandrashila. It is said that Lord Ram ( Ramayana) meditates here after defeating the demon Ravan. Another believed that the Moon God was penance here. It is located 3,690 meters above sea level and you can see the panoramic view of the mountain range from here which Nandadevi, Bandarpunch, Trisul, Kedar Peak, and Chaukhamba peaks are included. The view of the mountain peaks looks very beautiful.
