Jim Corbett National Park is an older and the first National Park in India. It was established in 1936 under the name of Hailey National Park. This National Park was created to protect the endangered Bengal Tiger. It is located in Ramnagar district and near Nainital in Uttarakhand. Jim Corbett National Park was named after Edward James Corbett. He was a writer and hunter. He became famous for killing and hunting cannibalistic tigers and leopards. He hunted in the forests of India since his childhood and he played a very important role in creating the first wildlife sanctuary in India. After the death of Mr. Edward James Corbett, the name of this national park was changed to Jim Corbett National Park.
It is habitat of Indian elephant, Indian leopard, Bengal tiger, jungle cat, fishing cat, leopard cat, barking deer, chital, sloth bear, sambar deer, hog deer, Asiatic black bear, gray mongoose, Himalayan goral, pangolin, langur, rhesus macaque, and tiger. 586 species of birds reside here. Tourists come here to see wild animals and birds. Many people love animals and some people are fond of seeing animals.
