Har Ki Pauri (Podi)

Pauri means step which is used for climbing down and descending. Haridwar Har ki Pauri Ghat also has a staircase and touches the Ganges, that is, there is a ladder to go to take a bath in the Ganges. It is said that the ancient king Vikramaditya had built Podia (staircase) here. And it is said that King Vikramaditya's brother Bhartrihari attained immortal position by doing penance here. Since then the name Har Ki Pauri has been given. Har ki Pauri is a holy ghat in Haridwar, from where people carry holy Ganges water for their homes.
