Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand

The Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand refers to five sacred rivers confluences of the Himalayas in Uttarakhand state of India. Vishnuprayag, Nandprayag, Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, and Devprayag are the Prayags.

Vishnuprayag - Confluence of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga Rivers

Vishnuprayag is one of the five Prayags of Uttarakhand. It is a famous town (basti) situated at the confluence of Dhauliganga and Alaknanda rivers. It is about 25 km from Joshimath. According to Hindu mythology, Dev Rishi Narad performed hard penance for Lord Vishnu here. Pleased with Narad ji's penance, Lord Vishnu appeared. There is a temple of Lord Vishnu at a distance of about 2 km. It is said that it was here that Narad ji had darshan of Vishnu ji. It is situated on the Joshimath-Badrinath road. Devotees of Badrinath pass through here and also stop for 20-30 minutes to see the confluence of two rivers at Vishnuprayag.

Nandprayag - Confluence of Alaknanda and Nandakini Rivers

Nandprayag is a beautiful pilgrimage and a town in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. It is situated at the confluence of two rivers Nandakini and Alaknanda. Chandika and Gopal Ji temples are situated at the confluence. People who go on Shri Badrinath Yatra stop for a while and enjoy the beautiful view of the Sangam a little below Nandprayag Bazaar. Whenever you come here, do not forget to see its beautiful views once. These views of nature are ultimates and nature attractions.

Karnaprayag - Confluence of Alaknanda and Pindar Rivers

Karnaprayag is a small town in Chamoli, Uttarakhand situated at the beautiful confluence of the Alaknanda and Pindar rivers. According to the Puranas, Karna was the eldest son of Kunti during the Mahabharata period. He worshiped the Sun at this confluence and Karan temple is situated on a stone (Shila) at the Karanprayag confluence. Uma Devi temple is also located here. You can visit both Karan and Uma Devi temples. You can reach the confluence by going down a few stairs from Uma Devi Mandir.

Rudraprayag - Confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini Rivers

Rudraprayag is one of the Panch Prayag of Uttarakhand. The name Rudraprayag is after Lord Shiva. It is about 34 km from Srinagar city in Uttarakhand. Maharishi Narad worshiped Lord Shiva on one leg and Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Rudra. Shiva blessed Narad Muni and taught him music. Lord Shiva presented a veena as a reward. Agasteshwar Mahadev Temple is situated here in the name of August Muni. Sage Agastya did penance for many years. A fair is also organized here every year on the occasion of Vaisakhi. Many people visit this fair from far distance.

Devprayag - Confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi Rivers

Devprayag is a nagar panchayat in Tehri district of Uttarakhand, India. It is a sacred site and is the confluence of the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers which further joint the Ganga river. Shri Raghunath ji temple is located here in Devprayag and lots of people visit this temple. This is the confluence where the combined river was named Ganga. First of all it was called by the name of Ganga ji from here.
